My name is Martyna Sarnowska. I was born in 1985 in Gdynia, Poland, where I live with my partner Peter and our daughter Oliwia. My passion is literature – reading, writing and popularizing it. I enjoy running this blog as it serves me as an open journal and gives the opportunity to share my writing, especially poems.
I discovered writing rather late… during my last year of university. I often regret that I haven’t met someone who would have helped me notice this form of expression in childhood or my teenage years. I also ask myself why I haven’t found writing as a child or teenager. I don’t know. I don’t really understand why the idea that books have authors hadn’t crossed my mind earlier.
My passion for writing occurred to me by chance. It happened one evening at university during a students’ talent show. A friend of mine came on stage and read out loud her three short stories. When she finished I spontaneously ran up to her and asked a naive question: „What is your talent?” She looked at me in surprise, but anwsered: „I write.” In that moment, for the first time, I felt the will and the need to reach for a pen.
Today, I’ve been writing for over ten years. At the beginning, I was following my literary path as if blindfolded… trying out different forms. Finally, I felt that poetry is closest to my heart. Since 2012, I’ve been regularly describing my daily life and observations by way of poetry.
Parallelly to writing, I’ve been dedicated to my other passion: teaching. I lead literature-writing workshops for children and young adults. In school I often get the impression that I‘ve become the person whom I lacked in youth – someone who draws others’ attention to the beauty of literature and shows students that next to visual arts and music one can draw joy and fulfillment from the written word.
